WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP

Laguna Hills Citizens for a Better
Animal Care Shelter
"If Public Officials who
brush off animal welfare
as trivial had to see the
results of their priorities
carried out-to witness
for themselves how
trusting the dogs are
even when being led to
their deaths, how they
lick the hands and face
of the person with the
needle-I suspect they
would see matters in a
very different light
" - Ed
Boks, General Manager
of the Dept. of  Animal
Services, Los Angeles
Almost 50% of impounded
cats are still euthanized at
the Orange County Shelter
Write or e-mail the Laguna Hills City Council telling them you
want them to do the feasibility study to join some or all of the
other 3 cities in So. OC, Aliso Viejo, Lake Forest and Rancho
Santa Margarita, who still contract with the old County
Shelter that was built in the 1940s, form a Joint Powers
Agreement and  establish a new Pro-Humane Animal Shelter
for all of us.  Unfortunately this appears to be just a numbers
game to our city council.  Craig Scott, Joel Lautenschleger
and Allan Songstad continue to say, Survey says this is not
important to the citizens of Laguna Hills.  If you want this you
need to write or e-mail.  See the "Contact Us" page on this
web site to get addresses for mail and e-mail.

MICRO CHIP ALL OF YOUR PETS!  Since our City
Council has just contracted for another year with the
County Shelter, with no end in site, it is vital that you
micro chip all of your pets to protect them.  The County
reports that last year it euthanized 15 dogs and 22 cats
from Laguna Hills that were surrendered or taken in as
strays plus 9 cats and 17 dogs that were reportedly
euthanized at owner request.  If your pet is taken by the
County and has no ID it can be euthanized after only 4
days.  Collars and tags are easily lost if a pet is lost.
Our opinion is never allow your pet to be euthanized
by the County Shelter for any reason.  The County
does charge a fee for this service and for a pet who is
terminally ill there are Veterinarians who will do this
locally for you and in a caring environment at a reduced
rate.  For pets who have behavior problems contact a
good trainer first and if that does not work try a local
private shelter or rescue group who takes owner
relinquished pets and may be able to work with your
pet and find it a good second home.
Do Adopt Pets from the County Shelter, they need your
help.
Write letters, e-mail, phone and/or fax the Laguna
Hills City Council Members,  request a response, and
send copies of your letters, e-mail, faxes, to us.  Find
the City Council's contact information on our "Contact
Us" page
Always Complain to the City Council directly about
every instance of every city service that you have
problems with and keep a copy of your complaint.
Lautenschleger told us that no one has ever
complained to him about Animal Control Services.
